New Captain Ben Cloake and his Five Arches team travelled to Pendine for the first friendly match of the season. On a blustery but pleasant afternoon they enjoyed a narrow three shot victory. The Five Arches were boosted by the addition of Tenby's finest, Cameron and Gerald and also the local knowledge and guile of Pendine lady Gwen. Neil and his rink of Steve, Mike and John had an interesting game on rink 2. Trailing by nine shots at the tea interval , they scored 16 shots in the second half and by only conceding 2 , ran out winners by 23 shots to 18. Next door on rink 3, Captain Ben and his rink of Johno, Ken and Bill had a battle against wily Pendine skip Mal Evans. A close game all the way through, the Pendine quartet eventually edged the win by five shots. 

Gerald, ably supported by Roger, Gwen and Tony had a strong game against Arwel's foursome.  Completely in control all through the match, they eased to a comfortable 21 shots to 14 victory. On rink 5, Ashley and his rink of Cameron, Ben and Steve were involved in another tight game. The match was decided on the final end with the Pendine rink edging ahead to win by four shots. An encouraging start for the Five Arches with the beginning of the league program only a fortnight away.  Many thanks to Pendine for their hospitality. Our next game, another friendly against Kidwelly on Saturday (18th).
